Online Tip of the Week: Google is Different than You

Posted in: Web Info, Tips & Tricks

Sometimes Google cares about the same things you do, sometimes it doesn’t.

Have a look and see what I mean:

  1. Google just isn’t as sensitive as you. In fact, it’s completely case-insensitive. It doesn’t matter if you type your searches in capital letters, lowercase letters, Title Case, or a completely random MixTUre of capital and lowercase letters. It’ll give you the same results no matter what case(s) you use.
  2. Google isn’t the grammar geek you are. It really doesn’t care about most of the punctuation you include in your web searches. Yes, you may be proud of your commas, periods, question marks, semi-colons, less than signs, greater than signs, and brackets. But Google couldn’t care less about them, really.  It just ignores all of ‘em.
  3. Google isn’t as wordy as you. Google very much prefers that you get to the point. In fact, Google won’t pay attention to anything you’ve typed beyond the 32nd character in its search box.
