Fun Finds

Posted in: Web Info, Tips & Tricks, Website Links

Hi there everyone. This week during my exploration of the web I came across several fun finds: a great game, an immensely useful forum, and an application that can make you feel like an underachiever.

Fun diversion
This kept me quite entertained one day at lunch: http://tinyurl.com/76sym. The game is called “Guess the Google,” and it sure makes you use your brain.

In a nutshell, the game picks a secret keyword and then shows you the top 20 images Google results generated. The faster you guess the secret keyword, the more points you receive.

Guess the Google requires version 7+ of Flash (but don’t worry - if you don’t have it, the page offers a link to the free download). Have fun - but don’t get too addicted.

Accomplishments

The fantastic Museum of Conceptual Art has written a small yet amusing web application aptly titled, “Things Other People Accomplished When They Were Your Age.” Simply type your age into the box, hit the “Display Accomplishments” button, and that’s it.

I discovered that, at my age, Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin, Ken Kesey published “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” and Napoleon Bonaparte conquered Italy. Man, I’m such a slacker.

See what others your age have accomplished: http://museumofconceptualart.com/accomplished.

Useful forum
I’m not quite sure how I came across this site, but “Forums for the Chaotic Home” is a fun place to talk, share, and ask questions with people who have similar interests.

The site is very low-tech with few graphics, making it incredibly easy to use. Choose from over 100 categories and ask advice, give advice, read others’ comments, post photos, and make new friends.

A very short list of some of the categories on this site include: Building a Home, Flooring, Home Repair, Cooking Outdoors, Beauty and Fashion, Trash to Treasure, Photography, Scrapbooks, Woodworking, The Single Life, Exercise & Nutrition, Parenting, Holidays, and Camping.

Everyone is allowed to read all the site’s content, but to post a comment or reply to a comment, you need to become a member - which costs $15. Take a look; surely there’s a category here you’ll find interesting: http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums.
